Antacids & Acid Reducers
Antacids like Tums and Rolaids provide fast relief from heartburn and indigestion. H2 blockers like famotidine (Pepcid) and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like omeprazole (Prilosec) reduce stomach acid production and are better suited for frequent or persistent heartburn. PPIs are most effective when taken daily, not just as needed.
Anti-Diarrheal
Loperamide (Imodium) is the most common OTC option for acute diarrhea. Bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol) addresses diarrhea, nausea, and upset stomach.
Laxatives
Available in several forms—bulk-forming (Metamucil, Citrucel), osmotic (MiraLax), stimulant (Dulcolax, Senokot), and stool softeners (Colace). The right choice depends on the cause and duration of constipation.
Fiber Supplements
Psyllium husk, methylcellulose, and similar supplements support regularity, lower cholesterol, and help manage blood sugar. Often recommended as a daily supplement rather than just a constipation remedy.
Probiotics
Live bacterial cultures that support gut health. Available in capsule, chewable, and gummy form. Commonly recommended after a course of antibiotics or for general digestive maintenance.
Gas & Bloating Relief
Simethicone (Gas-X) breaks up gas bubbles for fast relief from bloating and pressure.
Nausea Relief
OTC options for motion sickness and general nausea, including dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) and meclizine.
Antacids, laxatives, anti-diarrheal medicine, fiber supplements, and probiotics for everyday digestive health. All eligible under Medicare Advantage OTC benefit cards.
