About the UnitedHealthcare OTC benefit

What the UCard OTC catalog covers
The catalog includes both brand-name and generic products across several categories. What's available to you depends on your specific plan, but most plans cover the following.
Pain relief: Aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen, topical pain creams, and heating pads.
Allergy and cold: Antihistamines, decongestants, cough suppressants, and nasal sprays.
First aid: Bandages, gauze, medical tape, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment, and wound care products.
Digestive health: Antacids, laxatives, anti-diarrhea medications, fiber supplements, and heartburn relief.
Vitamins and supplements: Many plans cover vitamins C, D, B vitamins, calcium, and zinc.
Dental care: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, and denture care products. Electric toothbrushes may be eligible depending on your plan.
Eye and ear care: Reading glasses, eye drops, contact lens solution, ear drops, and ear wax removal kits.
Incontinence supplies: Adult briefs and bladder control pads are covered under most plans.
Blood pressure and diabetes monitoring: Blood pressure monitors, glucose meters, test strips, and lancets.
What the UCard does NOT cover
Just because you're shopping at CVS or Walgreens doesn't mean everything in your cart is eligible. If you enter your plan information on MyOTC.com, however, you will only see items that are eligible for your specific plan benefit.
Prescription drugs
Cosmetics or beauty products
Baby products (diapers, formula)
Alternative medicines, including probiotics and herbal supplements
Hair care products or moisturizers
Teeth whitening products
Weight loss supplements or meal replacement products
Tobacco or alcohol
Medicare copays or deductibles
Can you use the UCard for groceries and utility bills?
Some UnitedHealthcare OTC benefits can be used for groceries and utility bills, but there are specific conditions. Starting in 2026, UnitedHealthcare requires verification of a qualifying chronic condition to use your OTC credit on healthy food and utilities. Qualifying conditions include diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, chronic heart failure, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. UHC says they've already pre-verified 95% of eligible members, so most people won't need to take action. If you're unsure whether you qualify, check your plan details on the UCard Hub at ucard.uhc.com.
